wire therapy

braces treatment; It is a dental treatment method that is applied in the arrangement of tooth-jaw anatomy in order to eliminate irregularities in the tooth and jaw joint, to eliminate the crowding of the teeth, to eliminate the gaps between the teeth, to design a smile and to apply other necessary dental treatments. In this treatment, a certain amount of continuous force is applied by means of metal-based braces placed on the handles called brackets placed on the teeth, and the teeth are forced to come into positions in the desired directions.

What Does Braces Treatment Do?

Disorders and crowding in the position of the teeth are usually due to narrowing and anatomical disorders in the jaw structure. In people with a narrow and short jaw structure, the teeth complete their development in a perplexed manner because they cannot find enough space to develop. Again, some bone and dental diseases and results in dry mouth  teeth crowding can be seen in diseases such as sleep apnea , adenoid and nasal problems. With braces treatment, the problems of stenosis and shortness in the jaw are solved, creating a suitable space for the development of the teeth and ensuring the correct position of the tooth. Braces treatment is also a frequently used method for cosmetic smile design.

In addition, in cases where the upper and lower jaws are not positionally and structurally compatible, and the mouth does not fit one on top of the other (malocclusion), the jaws can be brought to their appropriate anatomical positions with braces treatment. Since teeth and bones are living tissues in the process of constant change and development, they are suitable to be brought to their correct anatomical positions with long-term passive force applications.

How Long Does Braces Treatment Take?

The duration of braces treatment varies depending on the tooth and jaw structure, the general health status of the person, the severity of the disorder in the teeth or jawbones, the treatment response, patient compliance and the type of treatment. Although the average application time of braces treatment is 1 to 3 years, some patients may require longer treatment. After treatment, some patients may need to use support retention devices called retainers for at least 6 months.  Orthodontist examines the patient every month during the treatment, ensures treatment follow-up and makes adjustments to the braces when necessary.

When Should Braces Treatment Be Started?

Braces treatment is often applied in the active growth period of children, at the age of 12-13 years. In addition, braces treatment with brackets can also be applied to adults. Adults may need more aggressive treatment methods and treatment may take longer.

How is Braces Treatment Applied?

Braces treatment can be performed through different types of brackets and apparatus. In this sense, the following methods can be applied as orthodontic treatment:

Metal bracket: Metal brackets, which are the most frequently used in braces treatment, provide very satisfactory results in the treatment as they allow the application of force on the teeth and jaw bones at the desired level and time. It is generally not preferred in treatments applied for cosmetic reasons.

Ceramic bracket: Although tooth-colored ceramic-coated brackets are preferred for a more cosmetic appearance, they are less effective in applying force to the teeth than metallic brackets.

Lingual bracket (invisible braces): Lingual brackets applied to the tongue-facing posterior surfaces of the teeth; It is the most successful method in terms of cosmetics, which is not noticed from the outside.

Aligner (transparent plaque): Aligners, which are produced from transparent plastic material, are used to make them suitable for the design of the apparatus by passively applying force to the teeth. In order to bring the teeth to the desired position, aligners are changed by taking measurements again with intermittent examinations.
